ONE WAY- Consider Jesus

LET NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED

by David Shook

(Memorial Service Message)

(1) "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me."

(2) "In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."

(3) "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

(4) "And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know."

(5) "Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?"

(6) "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh to the Father, but by me." John 14:1-6

There are 3 attitudes we may have toward death-

1. Defiance - rembember, life is a gift from jGod - we are stewards of it.

"The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away: blessed be the name of the Lord." Job 1:21

2. Fear - some have a reason to fear because they have not made peace with the Prince of Peace. "God hath not given us the spirit of fear." 2 Timothy 1:7

3. Quiet Readiness - not right to long for death, but when it comes, be prepared to accept it. Paul said in

"For I am now ready to be offered." 2 Timothy 4:6

There are 3 wonderful truths that God would have us know today.

1. THE WORD OF GOD COMFORTS

(1) Christ is preparing a place for His children.

v2 "I go to prepare a place for you"

Our home is not on this earth.

NOW AND THEN

Each day is a part of God’s never ending whole.
Each hour and minute a test for our soul.
The events that are a part of each day
Would only cause us worry to have known yesterday.
The things that cause us the greatest pain
Are often those given for our greatest gain.
On earth there are trials, a race to be run,
In Heaven there is peace, sweet gift of God’s Son.
Our mansions await us and crowns are laid up
For Jesus’ own children, with Him we will sup.

All our heartaches that seem too great to bear,
Will someday be explained when we get over there.

-Dixie Lea Clouse Mozino

Heaven is a place of love,
Heaven’s builder and maker is God
Heaven is a place of reunion
(2) Christ is coming again
v3 "I will come again"
Some golden daybreak, Jesus will come,
Some golden daybreak, battles all won.
He’ll shout the victory, break through the blue,
Some golden daybreak for me, for you.
not only does the Word of God comfort , also--

2. THE WORD OF GOD INSTRUCTS

(1)God graciously invites His children to cast all their care upon Him.

"Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you." 1 Peter 5:7

(2) God gives instructions about His plan of eternal life and abundant life.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

not only does the Word of God comfort and instruct, but--

3. THE WORLD OF GOD WARNS

(1) Of the uncertainty of life

"How do you know what will happen tomorrow? For your life is like the morning fog - it’s here a little while, then it’s gone." James 4:14(NLT)

(2) Of the certainly of death

"And it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." Hebrews 9:27

(3) Of the need to be prepared

"Therefore be ye also ready, for in such as hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh." Matthew 24:44

(ill) "I’m not anxious to die, but I am anxious to be prepared to die."

Jimmie Davis, former governor of Louisiana.

CROSSING THE BAR

Sunset and evening star, and one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar when I put out to sea.

But such a tide as moving seems asleep, too full for sound or foam. When that which drew from out of the boundless deep... turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell, and after that the dark!

And may there be no sadness or farewll When I embark.
For though from out our bourne time and place
The flood may bear me far,

I hope to see my pilot face to face When I have crossed the bar.

Alfred Tennyson
